February Superstar — Meet Olivia!
Every month, we highlight a child so you can learn about the wonderful children we help in our community. Along with Valentine’s Day, February also marks American Heart Month to raise awareness about heart disease and heart defects. Meet one of our exceptional children, Olivia!
Olivia was born prematurely and diagnosed at birth with several congenital heart defects, including Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, ASD, and VSD. A few months later, she was also diagnosed with Coarctation of the Aorta. She spent the first eight months of her life in a Children’s Hospital, where she underwent the two open-heart surgeries. During her stay, she faced numerous complications, including a G-tube for feeding intolerance. At four years old, Olivia underwent her third open-heart surgery—and since then, she has been thriving.
Despite the challenges of her heart repair journey, Olivia is a bright and joyful almost-seven-year-old who loves playing with her twin sister and little sister. Moana helped her through those tough months in the hospital, and to this day, she remains a huge fan. She also loves music, school, video games, and attending her various therapies.
“Jack’s Helping Hand has been a true blessing to our family from the very beginning, allowing us to focus on Olivia’s medical needs by assisting with gas, lodging, and food expenses. She is also part of the Little Riders Program, where her confidence and balance have improved tremendously. Riding has become a highlight of her week, and she looks forward to it every time!”
